ABOUT WEALL AND CULLEN
In 1982, young Peter Weall and his new bride Katie, arrived in USA to open two new businesses. Peter began his career here as a garden designer and contractor, and Katie opened a flower shop on Millbrook Road.
Peter reflects, “Initially I got all my business from a hinged wooden sign placed on the sidewalk in front of Katie’s shop.”
Word of Peter’s excellent work spread and so did his reputation for quality and fair prices. For Five years Peter’s business grew to include a full-time landscape crew, a ‘personnel carrier’ army truck and a lot near the corner of Millbrook road and Hickory Hills In IL.
In 1994, young James Cullen, John’s paper carrier, joined the firm full time. In a newsletter to his clients John writes, “I wish to announce that James Cullen, who has been my helper and draftsman for four years, has now become an associate member of this firm. It is our endeavour to make our business a personal service devoted to creating more beautiful gardens for your enjoyment.”
In 1996, James Cullen bought the company, giving Peter the opportunity to join the faculty at the University of Illionis as an instructor on “Landscape Gardening”.
Under James Cullen’s wings the company entered a new phase of growth. A new growing farm was started in Whitby and new retail garden centres were opened.
